Our Story

Omaha Track has been providing quality, reliable service to the railroad industry since 1983. Originally named the Tie Yard of Omaha, we began business by repurposing used railroad ties to landscape ties. Since then, we have grown into the leading railroad material supply company and services contractor in North America by providing a variety of services and recycled railroad products to Class 1 and short line railroads, rail contractors, and industries in North America.

Omaha Track has the infrastructure, resources, and dedicated employees to consistently provide quality sustainable service to our customers. This commitment has driven efficiency in operations as well as generated innovation of our existing products and services, as well as growth into new areas of expertise within the railroad industry.

To serve our customers efficiently, Omaha Track comprises four areas of focus – Terminal Services, Materials, Railroad Services, and Omaha Track Equipment.

Our Areas of Focus

Materials Our steel products include new and reclaimed rail and other track material (OTM). Reclaimed materials are sorted and repurposed to the highest and best use. Rail and OTM graded as relay are sold to railroads, contractors, or industries to be put back in service as railroad track components. Reroll rail is heated and molded into a different product, and rail and OTM graded as scrap is sold into the steel market. Additionally, we process over two million wood crossties per year with approximately 70 percent of those ties being recycled as biomass. The remaining ties are repurposed as railroad infrastructure or used in landscaping. The reclaimed materials are processed and distributed through our network of facilities.

Omaha Track Railroad Services operates nationwide on both active and abandoned track. Some of our core services include: railroad infrastructure reclamation, abandoned track removal, new construction, track expansion, track maintenance, track inspections, and track repair. Our Operations and Track Construction Teams have the management, personnel, and equipment to get the job done safely and on time.

We focus on three types of Equipment for sale or rent: 1) Maintenance of Way (MOW) trucks, 2) MOW railcars and 3) Construction equipment. In addition, we offer FRA inspections, DOT inspections, parts, and service to keep your current fleet of equipment in service. Our in-house engineering and management teams have extensive experience in design and construction of railroad equipment that allows us to fabricate and custom build equipment to fit your exact needs.

Omaha Track provides Terminal Services at our strategically located facilities across the western United States. These services include, but are not limited to: transloading, railcar storage, product storage, switching services, short line railroad operation, railcar cleaning, and railcar repair.
