Introduction/Overview
Before we get started, I'd like to provide you with a brief overview of the job details and Omaha Track.

Omaha Track has been a railroad service provider since 1983. Historically, we have never had to lay off employees due to a lack of work. The industry naturally has its ups and downs, but with our various projects and facilities, we are generally able to find a place to reassign our employees until business picks back up. You can learn more about our various facilities on our website. Omaha Track currently has contracts to perform work on the Union Pacific, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Canadian Pacific Railroad and Norfolk Southern Railroads for pickup and disposal of various railroad materials.

The Field Crew, where you have applied, has a work cycle of 60 hours per week. Overtime is paid at 1 1/2 times your base rate after 40 hours. Your total compensation includes your base pay, overtime and the Omaha Track quarterly bonus incentive. We also offer full benefits on the first of the month following 60 days of employment and vacation pay following one year of continuous employment.

This position will require 21-24 consecutive days of travel per month. Omaha Track arranges and pays for your flight or rental car, depending on the location, and you always have your own hotel room. You will also receive a daily per diem for meals while you are on the road.

CDL Finally, once you are approved to use your CDL with Omaha Track and after your supervisor signs off on your completed laborer training, you would become eligible for our Operator Apprentice program. In this program, you are trained to operate the equipment and, ultimately, lead a crew. Once you complete the apprentice program and are assigned to a crew, your income potential increases substantially.

NO CDL Finally, after you complete your laborer training, if you choose to obtain a CDL, Omaha Track will help reimburse some of the expense. Once you are approved to use your CDL with Omaha Track, then you would become eligible for our Operator Apprentice program. In this program, you are trained to operate the equipment and, ultimately, lead a crew.

From time-to time, you will be required to pack up quickly and move to a new job assignment or even join a different crew. How do you handle disruption and sudden changes such as new people, different locations and changes in your job duties.*
This role requires being away from home for 21 or more days each month. Bills, special occasions, holidays and family are all things we want to be sure you've taken into consideration. What experience do you have working away from home and, if none, how will you manage this aspect of the position.*
This position requires working outdoors, year-round, across the country. This means you will have to work in all elements including snow, rain, heat and cold. Tell me about your experience working in these conditions and any challenges you faced.*
Along with working outdoors, are you willing to work day or night shifts if required by the job assignment?*
The field crew gangs live, work, eat, drink and sleep with the same groups of people for extended periods of time. Though it is usually minor, conflict will happen from time to time. Tell me how you respond to conflict and what you do to manage difficult people or situations.*
Briefly describe your heavy equipment experience and any other work history you think would be valuable in this role.*
The Field Crew gangs rely heavily on teamwork to ensure everyone is safe, on time and getting the job done. If we were to talk to your current management team, what would they say about your work ethic, attendance and reliablity?
This job is fairly physical in nature and you will be required to pass a job function test during your training week to confirm that you are able to walk on uneven surfaces such as ballast rock, as well as bend, lift and climb as needed. We are interviewing a number of candidates with similar qualifications and background experience for a limited number of spots in our training class. What sets you apart you from other candidates and makes you the best fit for this role and Omaha Track?*
If you are offered a position with Omaha Track you will have to pass the pre-employment screening including a DOT Physical, Drug Screen, passing MVR and a background check. A specific background check is required for you to get credentials to work on railroad property and could take some time depending the counties.
